This recipe is the inspiration for the website’s name. Heart shaped waffles are a popular snack in Norway. One of the first Norwegian recipes I ever learned was this one and it was taught to me by my fiancé, a real waffle loving Norwegian.
We recently had some friends visiting from Norway and they introduced us to a way that Norwegians commonly eat oatmeal. It is quite different from the sweet, warm dish that Americans traditionally think of as oatmeal.
Norwegians have an unusually strong relationship with their potato salad. Recipes are strictly guarded by gas station attendants, grandmothers and potato farmers, kept locked in secret closets and never given to outsiders (even fiancés). Unfortunately for them, I am an expert at tasting recipes and recreating them.
